Truth and Love
2 John | Pastor Winston Parrish
I want us to look at Truth and Love. In the second Epistle of John, John writes to an unnamed woman in the Faith. Inside this letter, we find that the primary purpose is to address false teachers. These false teachers were conducting false ministry among John’s congregations, seeking to influence the converts and take advantage of their Christian hospitality.
Here is one of the most powerful explanations of what it means to be a Christian who knows the truth but lives in a world surrounded by untruth and the actions of those who do not live their life surrendered to the truth.
Love and Truth are inseparable in Christianity; because of that, they are inseparable in our lives as believers. This morning, a foundational principle for us to learn is that Truth must always guide the exercise of love. You can’t have real love without the truth! We live in a world that subverts and works against truth and tries to redefine what love is.
- Truth Pursues Love – 1 Timothy 1:5
- Love Pursues Truth – 1 Corinthians 13:6
Truth is the foundation of Christian unity: without the truth, there can be no love, and without love, there can be no unity, and without unity, there can be no momentum, no growth, no development. This applies individually and corporately to us as a church family. When someone compromises the truth, true Christian love and unity are destroyed.
