Erasing the Line Between Sacred and Secular, Part 1
1 John 2:15-20 | Pastor Winston Parrish
As Christians, it’s crucial to understand our identity. What defines us? What shapes us? While we might hear various responses, we must turn to the Bible for a clear description of who we should be. Let’s delve into 1 John 2:15-17.
It’s not surprising that living for the Lord Jesus Christ can provoke hostility. Our Lord Himself faced hatred for His words, actions, lifestyle, and representation. The world may not understand, but as Christians, our love is directed towards God and our fellow believers, not the world we inhabit.
When anyone stands and refutes the word of God as anything other than what the word of God is, they stand against the knowledge of God, and they prove that they indeed love the rebellious, tyrannical government of Satan and that they do not love God.
For believers, it’s a powerful reminder that we must erase the lines we draw between the secular and sacred. The areas of our lives where we draw the lines will develop a dangerous pattern. It’s so much more than just being separated from sin. It is about everything that we are as Christians.
Erasing the line between secular and sacred requires:
- Everything that I am (Identity)
- Everything that I do (Purpose)
- Everything that I have (This is more than money, family, & time)
- Everything that I plan to be. (The direction of my life)
