A Few Good Men

Deacon Ordination 2025 | Pastor Winston Parrish

My heart this morning is to charge these, our new Deacons, as Trinity’s Men of Character, Conviction, and Commitment. Throughout history, God has called men of godly character, unshakable conviction, and unwavering commitment, not men of status, wealth, or worldly power.

I. Good Men are PROVEN in their TESTIMONY – 1 Timothy 3:8-10

A deacon’s first calling is not to a title but a testimony. The word “prove” in verse 10 means to be tested, examined, and found faithful. A man does not become proven after receiving a position. His faithfulness before the position qualifies him for it.

II. Good Men are PURE in their FAITH – 1 Timothy 3:9

A good deacon is not just a servant in the church; he is a guardian of the truth. He ensures that what is taught, believed, and practiced aligns with God’s Word.

III. Good Men are PERSISTENT in their DUTY – 1 Timothy 3:12-13

A deacon does not serve for recognition, but God will always recognize faithful service. He must persist, not quitting when things get hard but pressing forward, knowing his labor is for Christ and His church. A man’s leadership in the church begins with his leadership at home. A deacon’s ability to serve faithfully in the church is directly tied to how he leads, loves, and serves his family.

The Call for A Few Good Men

The church is not an organization; it is an organism, the living body of Christ. It must be led by men who understand that their role is not about status, control, or personal gain but about service, sacrifice, and spiritual leadership. When it’s all said and done, A deacon is the office of a servant.
