Abraham: Faith Called into Covenant
Hebrews 11 | Genesis 12 | Isaiah 51:1-5 | Pastor Winston Parrish
Hebrews 11 shows that salvation by faith has always been God’s plan, demonstrated by Abraham, who was called from chaos into a covenant relationship with God. Isaiah later reassures Israel of this unbreakable promise, emphasizing that God’s covenant faithfulness endures beyond circumstances. This covenant, rooted in God’s commitment to His people, ultimately points to the New Covenant in Christ, fulfilling the promise of blessing to all nations.
1. The Call of God – Hebrews 11:8
God’s work begins with His call. Just as He called Abraham out of his pagan background, God initiates His purpose in the lives of His people. Abraham was not chosen because of his greatness, but because of God’s sovereign will. God’s call is powerful, reaching into unlikely places and transforming lives.
2. The Blessing of God – Isaiah 51:2
God’s blessings to Abraham were not just material or for his lifetime; they were spiritual promises that extended to future generations. He rewards obedience, and these blessings are long-lasting, unfolding through His faithfulness over time, as they did through Abraham’s descendants. Thank God for the faithful people who have come before us!
3. The Increase of God
God’s work didn’t stop with calling and blessing Abraham. His increase is evident in the growth of Abraham’s lineage, from one man to a vast nation. God’s work in Abraham’s life went beyond Abraham’s wildest expectations. God kept His word, God kept the promise, and to this day, God is keeping His promise!
