Making Memories

What a wonderful week at Trinity!  The Lord blessed us with beautiful weather last Saturday for our first “Heritage Day”!

The turnout was exciting, and all the displays and vendors were amazing!  Then Sunday, we celebrated our 50th anniversary as a church!  The memories were heart-touching, and we honored the sacrifice of our founders.  We enjoyed a delicious meal, feeding almost a thousand people!  What about our “Birthday Cake”?  It was awesome, to say the least!

Wednesday night of the Jubilee, the Governor of North Carolina honored Squire Parsons with the “Order of the Long Leaf Pine”.  What a great joy for Trinity to share that honor and make more wonderful memories!

The morning services in the Jubilee were just what we needed!  The spirit of the Lord was real, and the preaching was anointed!

Thank all of you that volunteered, ushered, greeted, cleaned tables, loved on babies, cooked or parked cars!  You are the best!  Thank you choir for your faithful services all week long!

We love you, and we love serving Jesus together!

Homecoming

In 1966, Trinity Baptist Church held its first service at 107 State Street in West Asheville.  The church was organized with 89 charter members.  In 1970, Trinity moved to the new Shelburne Road location to continue building the new church.

Our founding Pastor, Dr. Ralph Sexton, Sr., led the church in acquiring the original seven acres of this 23 acre complex.  It had been used during World War II and the later years as the Zephyr Hills Sanatorium.  Jerry Payne and Ed Sparks led the construction team with many church volunteers.

Dr. Sexton, Sr. retired from the Pastorate in 1988 and the church issued a call to evangelist Ralph Sexton, Jr.  On April 1, 1988 the church voted to call Ralph Sexton, Jr. to be the Senior Pastor.

In 1989, Rev. Jerry Young came along side Pastor Sexton as an Associate Pastor.  Later in that same year the church called Rev. L. Eddy Evans as Minister of Music and Associate Pastor.

God blessed and gave Trinity a heart for missions and outreach.  That wonderful era of spiritual and physical growth continues to this day.

In 1992, the “Baby Palace” was constructed, debt-free, built by the dedicated workers of our church.  That theme continued all year long with our church paying off the mortgage to become “Debt free in 93!”

On November 3, 2002, we were able to break ground for the Tabernacle of the Mountains.   Our first Sunday in this beautiful building was Sunday, July 10th, 2005.

Today we celebrate 50 years of serving the Lord together.  Our hearts are filled with emotions of thanksgiving and love for those who sacrificed to make this day possible.  We are blessed that we are all together today to remember our families and friends!

Thank you for being a part of this historic day in the life of our church.  We remember the past as we reach for the future; holding together a place for our families to have a spiritual home.

Missions

We are honored to have as our special guest today Evangelist and International Missionary Randy Bane. We also welcome the Jason Woon Family, missionaries to Nepal.  Trinity has been supporting these ministries for many years, we are excited to hear the good news and see their reports.

Our focus this month has been on Missions and as we close out September, let us remember that the Great Commission is written to all who have received the gift of salvation; to go, to pray and to give. Today we will collect our Faith Promise Offering cards during each service.  After the 5PM service we will total all of the cards so we will know the amount to support new missionaries. The Faith Promise Plan is an act of faith that involves every member in an organized approach to missionary giving. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you prayerfully consider your goal for giving for the next year.  Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over…”

Looking ahead to October, please remember to join us for a special week of celebration, heritage and Jubilee October 1-7. Each day will be filled wonderful activities, food, music, and Bible preaching. You will not want to miss one exciting day!  What an opportunity for us to fellowship and be together as a church family.  Go to our church website calendar to see the schedule of speakers and events.

Thank you for your faithful attendance today as we continue our emphasis on missions during the month of September.  God’s word tells us in Mark 16:15 “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”  This is the heartbeat of Trinity and the purpose for these special services is to inspire, to enlighten, to encourage and to enlist participation;

  • Our church family inspired to GO as missionaries
  • Our church family inspired to PRAY for missions
  • Our church family inspired to GIVE to missions

On Sunday September 4th Mountain Area Pregnancy Service, Mrs. Deborah Wood spoke of how we can be involved here in our Jerusalem.  Also, Coach Danny Wilkins with FCA gave us exciting information on how to help evangelize our young people right here in our mountain area.

On Sunday September 11th Carl Vonnoh inspired us to be involved as a volunteer with the ministry of C.L.A.I.M. which helps international missionaries build schools and churches.

Today we look forward to hearing from Kanon Bloom as he shares his burden for China. On Sunday, September 25th Jason Woon Family missionaries to Nepal and Evangelist Randy Bane will be with us all day.

Please continue to prayerfully consider your Faith Promise giving for the next year.  We will hand out the offering cards during the services on the 25th then total the amount of Faith Promise after the Sunday evening service.  My prayer is that we will increase our level of giving so we can support more missionaries and do more than ever before.

We are living in difficult, yet exciting times and there is not a better place to serve, love and work together than Trinity Baptist Church.

September 11th

Fifteen years ago on this day, Muzette and I were in Pennsylvania.  We had spent the night there on the way to New York City.  We were going to see the sights and have lunch in the World Trade Towers to enjoy the fabulous view.

Our trip was delayed one day and we spent an extra night in Pennsylvania, awakening there on the morning of September 11, 2001.  While we were having coffee we heard the news that America had been attacked!

Our nation would never be the same.  In the fifteen years since that day we have seen a change in the way we live our lives and our travel has changed forever.  During this same time frame we have seen the world grow more dangerous with senseless brutal attacks against our people and communities.

As it was in New York City, it was the same in Boston, Chattanooga, San Bernardino, Dallas and Orlando.  The dispatchers, first responders, EMT, law enforcement and emergency trauma teams were there for each individual and family.

The crowd always runs for cover.  People look for a place of safety and a place of shelter.  The fire, rescue, police officers and paramedics rush to the site.  They run into the danger!  They place their lives at risk for people they don’t even know.

We honor the men and women of 9-1-1 today.  You are loved and respected!
