I want us to see two men, in particular, this morning: one who is in dire need and the other who can do something to help. The first man is the Blind Highway Beggar of Jericho; the other is the Lord Jesus Christ.

From Galilee to the South, all over Israel, Jesus did signs, wonders, and mighty deeds, displaying His deity, compassion, and power while preaching salvation and entering His glorious kingdom.

This miracle is the final period of His marvelous, unparalleled ministry, but from here, it’s up. A trip up from Jericho to Jerusalem, up to the Mount Of Olives, up on the cross, and up for His ascension to heaven!

Look at the day Jesus changed this Blind Highway Beggar’s life.

The moment this Blind Highway Beggar Bartimaeus cried out, Jesus, Son of David! Please have mercy on me! I believe with all my heart that he was saved at that moment! You can’t have reverent love for Jesus Christ as a spiritually dead man. That would mean that the spiritual man had been healed already, but the physical man was still blind.

What a perfect picture of salvation for you and me! Bartimaeus is blind and hopeless, sitting by the road, hoping for a chance that the Healer and Savior might come by. Jesus went to the bottom of Israel, to the lowlands of Jericho, to claim a beggar and make him his own. Just as Jesus went to the low place of your life and mine to rescue us from our sin and despair, all we have to do is cry out, Lord, Please have mercy on me! He will hear your plea and will change your life!
