We Still Pray
I wonder if we, as a church family, have truly considered the potential of the next few weeks of ministry. In the next 30 days, we will send kids to camp, teens to conferences, and host the 55th Land of the Sky Jubilee, a time of refreshing and encouragement for all believers.
We are all aware of God’s capability; we know He can do anything. One moment of divine intervention is worth more than a lifetime of human effort.
There isn’t an equation, a mathematical or scientific measurement that can quantify God’s actions, but there is one tool, one form of action that God has sovereignly chosen to be a means of divine intervention: prayer.
“Prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of omnipotence.” This quote by Charles Spurgeon suggests that prayer can move God to act on our behalf. Spurgeon believed that prayers are like nerves that move God’s mighty hand of intervention. I agree with him; more importantly, it’s Biblical. James chapter 5 tells us, “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” There is power in prayer. God wants us and expects us to pray. Our obedience to prayer is how we expect Him to intervene.
Considering the potential and eternal consequence of the next 30 days, I urge the church family to join me for 2 special Saturday evenings of prayer. On July 6th and 13th at 5PM, we will gather in the main sanctuary for a short organized prayer directive and then spend a season focused in prayer. This is not just a suggestion, but a call to action. Please plan to bring the entire family and come prepared, with clean hands and a pure heart to pray effectually and fervently as righteous men and women of God.
Let’s come expecting and believing, not in our capability, but in the truth that God will hear us and that He will answer our petition. Let it be said that we still pray at Trinity Baptist Church because we still believe!
