Thank God, Momma Knew How to Pray!
1 Samuel 1:1-20 | Pastor Winston Parrish
Samuel’s life was pivotal in Israel’s history. He was a prophet, anointed the first two kings of Israel, and was the last of Israel’s judges, considered by many to be the greatest judge. Acts chapter 13 even mentions this great man of God! The central theme throughout Samuel’s life is that God alone should receive the glory and honor. No matter what he was going through. There is much to learn from Samuel’s life, but before we get Samuel, we have to talk about his momma, Hannah. What we find in his story is a momma who knew God, who knew how to pray and who raised her child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord!
Motherhood and the simple basic truth about what it means to be a mother are currently undergoing a profound redefinition process in our world, especially here in the United States. This shift marks a significant departure from the principles of Biblical motherhood and mothering, a fact that should give us pause and prompt us to reflect. That doesn’t change the fact that mothers are the makers of men, the architects of the next generation. I want us to look to the faithfulness, the attitude, and the grace of God in the life of Hannah.
Hannah the Devoted!
- Devoted to Her Husband
- Devoted to her God.
- Devoted to Her Home
No doubt, Samuel could say with boldness as he got older: Thank God for my momma! Thank God momma knew how to pray, how to worship when she was hurting. Thank God momma was devoted to my daddy! Thank God she was dedicated to our little house and our few little days together. Thank God momma was devoted above all to a High and Holy God!
