Erasing the Line Between Sacred and Secular, Part 2
1 John 2:15-20 | Pastor Winston Parrish
In erasing the lines between sacred and secular we are
- Called to “love NOT” the World
- Reminded of the present worlds doom
- Warned of Antichrist and Antichrists
1 John 2:18 “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.”
Notice Antichrist:
The singular term in the first occurrence refers to a specific person prophesied in Scripture. One person who attempts to take the office and position of Christ. This man is not Satan, although Satan is the possessing force behind him and he has motives like the desires of the devil.
Notice Antichrists:
The other is plural and refers to many individuals. John uses the plural to identify and characterize the false teachers who were troubling John’s congregations with their false doctrine, distorted truth, and opposition to Christ. The term refers to a principle of evil, something that occurs naturally in people. It is what makes them who they are: hostile and opposed to God.
Two characteristics mark genuine Christians in contrast to the antichrist and the antichrist spirit. The literal anti-christ and the many false teachers and preachers of the last days.
- First, the Holy Spirit guards those in the faith from error. Romans 8:16
- Second, the Holy Spirit guides the believer into knowing “all things.” True Christians have a built-in lie detector, and through the power of the Holy Ghost. John 14:26
