Sarah, Princess of the Faith

Hebrews 11 | Genesis 17 & 21 | Pastor Winston Parrish

Hebrews 11 highlights examples of faith, including Sarah, emphasizing that salvation by faith has always been God’s plan. Sarah, the mother of faith, played a crucial role in God’s covenant despite her imperfections. Though she struggled with doubt—evidenced by her decision to give Hagar to Abraham to bear a child—Sarah ultimately trusted God’s promise of descendants despite her barrenness.

Sarah’s story demonstrates that God works through imperfection, redeeming even flawed decisions for His purposes. As one of only two women in the Hall of Faith, her journey of faith, courage, and obedience serves as an enduring example of trusting God’s promises. Her inclusion illustrates that God’s grace and faithfulness transcend human weakness, inspiring believers to walk in faith despite life’s challenges. Three defining aspects of Sarah’s faith reveal a God who is supremely faithful and can deeply impact our own walk with Him:

1. Faith In What God Says – Genesis 18:9-15
Sarah’s laughter at God’s promise shows her doubt, but her fear marks her realization that God can make the impossible possible.

2. Faith In What God Does – Genesis 21:1-6
God’s response shifts Sarah’s doubt to faith as He fulfills His promise, turning her sorrow into joy.

3. Faith In Who God Is – Genesis 17:15-16
Sarah’s story shows God fulfills His promises not based on who we are but on who He is, transforming her doubt to faith and her barrenness to blessing.
